About

My name’s Jack. I’m a 4th year at Georgetown University School of Medicine and like you, I’m trying to figure out how to become a Good Doctor.

I try to talk about the things we medical students don’t like to discuss and find answers to the questions that usually get dodged:

  • Is it possible to avoid burnout?
  • Am I gonna be good enough?
  • How do I figure out what I actually wanna do in medicine?
  • That whole work-life balance thing, is it possible?
  • How can I keep patients, and myself happy?

I do my best to talk about it all in a practical and entertaining way. I don’t have all the answers. In fact, I don’t have very many at all. I hope my writing sparks conversations that get us there.

If we do that, we can fill the path to becoming a Good Doctor with more community and support. Going through this process as a community is a lot better than doing it alone.

If you want to know a little more about me, read on.

I grew up in California, about an hour south of San Francisco. I’m the youngest of three children and spent my childhood getting wedgies and tickle tortures from my big brother and sister.

I also had a stutter that still comes out more often than I’d like.

I went to Santa Clara University where I played water polo and studied Public Health Sciences. When I finished playing water polo and wrapped up college, I went through a little quarter life crisis and had to reclaim my identity.  During that time, I discovered the anchors that help keep me grounded today.

  • Meditation
  • Mindfulness
  • Reflection
  • Stoicism
  • Journaling

It’s not all introversion and introspection, though. I love stand-up comedy and improv, and take classes whenever I can.

I’m an old soul at heart and love everything from straight razors and shaving brushes to 80s hair metal and old school hip hop. I’m a gigantic Seinfeld fan and spend as much of my free time as I can reading.

You can find some of my favorite books HERE.

Thank you for making it this far and I hope you enjoy the site.
